Engineering Buyer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Buyer to join a growing engineering business. Based in Leeds, this company specialises in the design, build and supply of bespoke production equipment that is sold to the global market.

This is an office-based role.

Working hours:
Monday to Thursday – 8am to 4.30pm
Friday – 8am to 1pm

Typical duties for the Engineering Buyer will include:

  • Procure engineering components and materials needed for the construction of machinery
  • Negotiate 'Best Prices' to ensure machinery build projects stay within budget and maintain profitability
  • Place purchase orders with numerous suppliers in the UK and overseas
  • Preparing supply agreements, contracts and progress reports
  • Identify improvements that can be made to current buying systems and processes
  • Identify potential cost-saving opportunities
  • Continually assess supplier price increases and challenge them where necessary 
  • Plan, organise and accurately monitor workload to meet strict deadlines
  • Ensure goods arrive on time and to the required specifications
  • Review, manage and enhance supplier performances
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers
  • The sourcing of new suppliers for manufactured items

Suitable applicants will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 2 years purchasing/procurement experience within an engineering/manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and identify parts from technical engineering drawings
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines
  • Highly driven and self-motivated
  • Proactive decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Good level of IT skills
